What is Fiber Tester?
Fiber testers are instruments and equipment used to test fiber optic transmission links. With the widespread use of optical fibers in high-speed communication, high-performance, reliable, and stable optical fibers are crucial for networks, making fiber optic detection a very important task. Fiber optic testers are mainly used to test the performance, quality, and reliability of optical fibers to ensure the normal operation of fiber optic transmission systems.
Types of Fiber Optic Tester
There are currently different types of fiber optic testers on the market with different functions. Next, we will introduce some common fiber testers in this post.
OTDR
Optical time-domain reflectometer is a measuring instrument used for fiber optic testing and analysis. It can detect and locate events in the optical fibers, such as connection points, fracture points, bending points, etc., by analyzing the measurement curve. OTDR has become an essential tool in the construction, maintenance, and monitoring of optical fiber cables.
Optical Power Meter
Optical power meter is a fiber optic tester used to measure absolute optical power or the relative loss of optical power in a certain section of optic fiber. It can be used to verify the continuity of optical fiber and evaluate the transmission quality of fiber optic lines. It is widely used in the construction and maintenance of fiber optic communication and networks.
VFL
Visual fault locator is a common fiber testing tool used for quickly detecting fiber connectivity and locating fault points in fiber optic links. VFL can emit a red laser beam to generate visible light points or rays. By observing the position and changes of the light points or rays, it can quickly identify the fault points in the fiber optic link for network maintenance.
Laser Light Source
Laser light source is a fiber optic tester used in conjunction with an optical power meter to measure the relative loss of fiber power. It can emit light sources with known power and wavelength, and plays an important role in measuring fiber loss, connection loss, and other aspects.
Optical Fiber Microscope
Optical fiber microscope is a fiber optic tester specialized for inspecting the end face of fiber optic connectors, used to evaluate the condition of fiber optic connector end faces (such as scratches, contamination, damage, etc.), with the characteristics of clear images, fast, accurate, and efficient.
